If you’re strapped for cash, or are just a do-it-yourself type of person, you’re always looking for ways to market and expand your business. Usually marketing costs big dough, but in the digital age, there are plenty of ways to get noticed without spending a penny.

Here’s how to do it:

Market on Social Media Channels

This one is really a no-brainer. When setting up a social media account, you may want hire an social media agency – but once set up, you can tweet, update and share to your hearts delight – all for free. The best ways to use social media involve engaging with your fan base… so get creative and start interacting. The more chatter on your page – the more attention you’ll bring to your business and your company.

Setup a Blog Interview / Utilize eZine Articles

Do you know of some popular bloggers that may be interested in an interview with you? Bloggers are always looking for content – and many of which will invite guest bloggers/interviews as content to share on their blogs. More often than not, you’ll also get a link and can get a big boost in traffic. Same goes for eZine article – this is a free article directory, where anyone can submit articles. Do a little research into the types of articles being posted already, and submit an interesting article of your own – at the very least your gaining new inbound links to your website, helping your SEO rankings.

Networking

LinkedIn is a great place to network and spread the word of your business. Their “Answers” section is a great way to gain valuable insight from professionals in your area of expertise – the best part, it’s all free.

Is your business category already being discussed? Get involved and start answering some questions. Build your reputation. Feel free to use LinkedIn’s advanced search to find people who may be interested in your products or services – if you have a mutual connection – feel free to message them in a non-spammy way to inquire about business opportunities.

Send out an E-Newsletter

If you don’t have a form to capture e-mail address on your website or social media channels… get on it! If you do, start building an e-newsletter for marketing your business. Send out exclusive offers, news and new products to your database – always be sure to share your social media links as well. This is a free and easy way to advertise your company.

Write a Press Release

Do you have particularly “news-worthy” content? An optimized press-release is always a good way to go. Look at some other press-releases to get an idea on how they are written, and go to town. Send them out to news-outlets and some online press-release companies, like Google News as well. You never know the type of response you get until you try. Be sure to include your contact details and links.
